PRNP contains a highly unstable region of five tandem octapeptide repeat. Mutations in PRNP protein’s repeat region as well as elsewhere have been associated with Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, fatal familial insomnia, Gerstmann-Straussler disease, Huntington disease-like 1, and kuru. |
