The Melanoma-associated antigen 3 genes were originally isolated from different kinds of tumors, and based on their virtually limited tumor-specific expression in adult tissues, they were used as targets for cancer immunotherapy. MAGEA3 is a tumor-specific antigen extensively expressed in solid and hematologic malignancies, but not in normal tissues, with the exclusion of testis and placenta. Consequently, MAGEA3 is an outstanding candidate tumor antigen. |
