Ubiquitin carboxyl-terminal hydrolase isozyme L5 (UCHL5 / UCH37) is a protease that specifically cleaves 'Lys-48'-linked polyubiquitin chains, and a deubiquitinating enzyme associated with the 19S regulatory subunit of the 26S proteasome. It is activated by ADRM1 and inhibited by interaction with NFRKB. UCHL5 / UCH37 associates with the proteasome 19S subunit in the cytoplasm, and the INO80 complex in the nucleus (1).
